Origin of currency..

well the origin of currency is fascinating journey, during my formative years i thought the barter system was better and simpler.

Let us travel through the ages to Scotland in 1200 B.C , a huge man wearing a skirt with nails and hammer is heading towards a house. He knocks at the doors ,someone answers the doors ....they have an argument .. after sometime the other person gives the man a piece of meat and takes the nails and the hammer...
a trade is made ..
in ancient timesthe sower and the reaper were the same . The man making the nails and selling is the same. The rearer and butcher was the same person.Division of labour was a thing unheard of back then.
Well but most useful things are perishable stuff like food items .. it is difficult to find value of a commodity .. most things perishable have high value in use but very low value actually in comparison to a diamond .. but a diamond has little value in use but great value in exchange.

now we leave towards greece ..
and i hear people measuring by oxens .. like the armour of achilles is worth 100 oxens.... times are changing i see imperishable metals being used ..copper being used in rome to trade.Bars of copper used for trade .. sometimes iron was used.. in rich countries silver and gold.. .. now it is very diffiult to pay in rude metal unstamped metal cause we don't know the exact value .. weighing them always and then assaying them is not an option without the additional costs. And if u don't assay melt the metal then its have huge chance to get defrauded..
stamped rude bars came into effect but still metal is scarce commodity .now coins came into being.
Servius tullius incorporated coins in rome .. roman pound contained a pound of copper
troyes pound used in scotland contained copper .. pound sterling contained a pound of silver of a known fineness .Shillings were infact a measure of weight rather than currency..
avarice and abuse of power used by kings princes states to repay the debts to the subjects by reducing the amount of silver in the pound.
this way .. money became the universal intrument of commerce

Adam Smith ...

reading about Adam Smith and The wealth of nations.
Adam Smith was born on june 5th 1723
"An enquiry into the nature and causes of wealth of nations"

the often quoted passage

"It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own interest. We address ourselves, not to their humanity but to their self-love, and never talk to them of our own necessities but of their advantages."

the passage offers a useful insight to his work.Every individual works devotes resources to a cause that he thinks will increase his own security.A person works for his own gain and tries to maximize his own gain .Freedom desired by everyman is the cause of this reaction. In history we have seen charity and benevolence of the wolves ,we have seen wars fought for peace, and we have heard if not seen of great atrocities commited in the name of freedom. And we have cursed economics of this world for it.That is why we should never talk of them our own necessities but what use would there actions be use to them.

Lifehouse

Desperate for changing
Starving for truth
I'm closer to where I started
Chasing after you
I'm falling even more in love with you
Letting go of all I've held onto
I'm standing here until you make me move
I'm hanging by a moment here with you

Forgetting all I'm lacking
Completely incomplete
I'll take your invitation
You take all of me now...

I'm falling even more in love with you
Letting go of all I've held onto
I'm standing here until you make me move
I'm hanging by a moment here with you
I'm living for the only thing I know
I'm running and not quite sure where to go
And I don't know what I'm diving into
Just hanging by a moment here with you

There's nothing else to lose
There's nothing else to find
There's nothing in the world
That can change my mind
There is nothing else
There is nothing else
There is nothing else

Desperate for changing
Starving for truth
I'm closer to where I started
Chasing after you....

Just hanging by a moment (here with you)
Hanging by a moment (here with you)
Hanging by a moment here with you

The Birth of Tragedy

"Dare now to be tragic men, for ye shall be redeemed!"
chapter 20 The Birth of Tragedy

The Birth of Tragedy by Nietzsche(summary and review)
bless my crooked soul having the guts to review a classic but even so while reading some portions of the book,i have come to realise the limitation language imposes on us,the limitation of the I "the individual".Man has been so engrossed with i that he has forgotten the surroundings..even thought the I becomes We in some cases ..the limitation of our consicous hampers us to include everything. The universe is not based upon I and We neither it is based on the domain and its limitations that we make it out to be situated in,it is neither in the words i write now, cause words I ,u,We can hardly be used to describe such feelings. So I ask myself what does!( In Simple words - not everything we feel can be expressed in words, and in our life we are fixated with I ,we,U other words words which cannot ever define the universe as they are incompetent to even describe our feelings )
Music exists in the realm beyond language, and so allows us to rise beyond consciousness and experience our connection to the Primordial Unity. Music is superior to all other arts in that it does not represent a phenomenon, but rather the "world will" itself.

IN the Birth of Tragedy Nietzche looks at the birth greek tragedy((Tragedy-A serious medieval narrative or narrative poem written in an elevated style and typically dealing with the downfall of an important or powerful person)) when it was born .. the meeting of appollonian worldview with dionysiusian.Even though he is critical of what is perceived as art ,Nietzsche has faith in the human soul and urges us to drop our Socratic pretenses(the idea of right and wrong) and accept the culture of Dionysus again.Nietzsche describes the state of Greek art before the influence of Dionysus as being naive, and concerned only with appearances. In this art conception, the observer was never truly united with art, as he remained always in quiet contemplation with it, never immersing himself. The appearances of Individual(Apollo) was designed to shield man from the innate suffering of the world, and thus provide some relief and comfort.

Then came Dionysus, whose ecstatic revels first shocked the Apollonian man of Greek culture(well you can say the appollonian man was like the hindu saffron brigade aakka shiv sena and Dionysian was valentines day). In the end, however, it was only through one's immersion in the Dionysian essence of Primordial Unity that redemption from the suffering of the world could be achieved(Meaning sex can elevate u!!).In simple words in life we have the choice to suffer and hope that we find salvation afterwards ( what a crazy idea, just a way to suffer ) or to join Dionysian gang and revel(Rockstars acid, drugs sex ,rockand roll, promiscuity ). In Dionysus, man found that his existence was not limited to his individual experiences alone, and thus a way was found to escape the fate of all men, which is death. As the Dionysian essence is eternal, one who connects with this essence finds a new source of life and hope(Now wait a minute, what is the bull and crap about being eternal ,Life is right now why this fixation with eternity) . Nietzsche thus shows Dionysus to be an uplifting alternative to the salvation offered by Christianity, which demands that man renounce life on earth altogether and focus only on heaven. For, in order to achieve salvation through Dionysus, one must immerse oneself in life now.

wonderful ... na

but about myself: am I a monster more complicated and swollen with passion than the serpent Typho, or a creature of a gentler and simpler sort, to whom Nature has given a diviner and lowlier destiny? But let me ask you, friend: have we not reached the plane-tree to which you were conducting us?

WHaT ShoulD i WriTe AbouT

Life as it is gives us a melange of experiences ,which sometimes we feel savor.
during the past few weeks a lot has happened ,old friendships coming back to life ,new ones undergoing trials ,breakups in between, accidents to others, fractures slip discs in neck , won a few prizes ... showered in glory presenting papers ..attended lunch birthparty in which i had loads of fun,in between a girl asked me to dance with her but really screw ups in majority.
these are the few of the experiences i went through in the last two weeks.

Game theory

Game theory in novels

An example of commitment using third party contracts is found in Mario Puzo's classic novel The Godfather. Those who may have only seen the film and not read the book might remember a few references to "the hostages" prior to any meetings between the heads of the families. In the book, this is described in much greater detail.

"The Bocchicchio Family was unique in that, once a particularly ferocious branch of the Mafia in Sicily, it had become an instrument of peace in America." The Bocchicchio Family is described as most ruthless and completely unamenable to logic and reason. Their simple code of vengeance did not make exception - if you harmed a member of their family, revenge would always follow. This irrationality become a limitation in America and the Bocchicchio family "knew they could not compete with their Mafia families in the struggle to organize and control more sophisticated business structures like prostitution, gambling, dope and public fraud." However, searching for an occupation in the new land of America, "the Bocchicchio Family became negotiators and hostages in the peace efforts of warring Mafia families."

Here is the basic idea. Say that Michael Corleone, the head of one Mafia family wishes to meet with Don Tessio, the head of another in order to discuss a deal for mutual advantage. The invited guest has no way of knowing if he will be safe during the visit, and Michael's promises that he will not hurt the guest cannot be believed. There is a problem of commitment here, and without some commitment, the two will not meet.

Enter the Bocchicchio Family. When Michael invites Don Tessio, he not only promises not to harm him, but also hires a member of the Bocchicchio Family to go to Tessio's house. There, the "hostage" will be guarded by Tessio's men. If Don Tessio does not return safely, Tessio's men will kill the hostage. The Bocchicchio Family, seeking revenge, will blame Michael Corleone for the death, since he made the promise that Don Tessio will not be harmed.

Now here is where the Bocchicchio Family's ruthlessness and irrationality is important. They have a reputation for revenge. They can't be bargained with. They can't be bribed. This way, Michael Corleone recognizes that breaking his promise to keep Tessio safe will result, eventually, in his own death. So, he commits to Tessio not through "cheap talk" or empty promises, but through a contract with a third party which is both credible and a strong enough commitment to guarantee that the meeting will take place.

Iannis Xenakis
Engineer turned classical composer, Xenakis formulated musical reflections of game theory with two "competing" orchestras in his compositions Duel and Strategie, both defined as "games for two orchestras."

"Murray Street is perhaps best seen as a product of cooperative game theory. Like all Sonic Youth albums, it is a result of individuals, striving in a collectivist environment, for goals that are only understood once they are achieved."

what is game theory?
It's a theory of probability that's a mathematical discipline that more or less has been applied improperly to real-life situations. It's just that idea of a set or rules that gets misused that intrigued me about it. I was reading how it was used in cold war strategies and all sorts of high-level things like that, with no particular record of success. And I just thought it was kind of a negative comment, really, but kind of a telling comment on life in general -- that you just have to have some sort of set of rules, but who knows what the set of rules should be. You just sort of make up what you can and go with it.

LIfe's like that....

i wonder may be i should have gone someplace with him on his riksha.. i wonder if i was correct in giving him the money without using his services, was it the honorable thing to do,may be i could have paid him after using his riskha....may be
his father may be really ill and might be dying.. suddenly a nine year old is man of the house..

The funniestt thing i ever heard.........

plz answer the question given below.. asked to father whose daughter is going for an MBA
"How are you letting her study an MBA.. where will you go for a more qualified husband for her now"..

my words.... first i laughed at it .. then i realised that this is no joke to lampooned at .This is the truth that is repeated day after day in the households of India.
tell me how many girls go for higher studies .. after the age of 23 they are thought of some commodity which has to be traded.I couldn't help wondering if me and my parents didn't encourage my sister to do an MBA would she have taken a stand to do it.
sometimes i stare at the stars to ask such questions which have no answers or questions which i don't want to answer, other questions which seem impossible to answer but yet can be solved .. will i do it won't i ...is it right or is it wrong .. is my percetion right or wrong..
in right and wrong whatever i choose ..thanks for power to choose

Where do u see yourself after 5 years?

ever been in an job interview .. one of the most irritating questions is
Where do u see yourself after 5 years?
Ans.[$%#@^%#@^*%&&($%^$()&^&] an array of bullshit

in interviews i discover that i am cassandra and after being cursed by apollo no one is going to believe me if i predict the future .So i acquiescence to my fate and lie and as predicted they believe me.
does an arrow know where it is going after it has been fired.. i say it is not his interest to know... that is for the bow of circumstances and the bow string of time to know.
in between if you are wondering about what other parts of the bow are they.... plz refer tothe pic above...
but today is the time to ponder .. how can a few question which tend to be so tautological decide the fate of a candidate..

An Equal Music -II

The thing about camellias you know ,is that when there about to die ,they won't tell you in time.If they lack water ,they don't look unhappy for a while, and show you they're suffering ,they just die.......
love in relationships also does not show but just dies.....
can u play without hearing the music .. an equal music u can play without needing to hear it.. i wonder my friend what musics would i have heard if i couldn't hear..
i can only wonder i guess...

An Equal Music

And into that gate they shall enter, and in that house they shall dwell, where there shall be no cloud or sun,no darkness nor dazzling ,but one equal night,no noise nor silence, but one equal music,no fears nor hopes, but one equal possesion,no foes nor friends, but one equal communion and identity,no ends nor beginnings, but one equal eternity.....

trilogy

These are from Trilogy Interview.

(i)Given Finite numbers of sets say S1 , S2 , S3 .... SM . Design an algorithm Find the element such that , it is a member of largest number of sets

(ii)Design a data structure for which Insertion , Deletion and Searching Takes O(1) time . The Data Structure must be such that it holds at the most N Keys. It must throw exception FUll() when there is no more space .(Dont assume anything about type,values... etc of keys )

well my idea is to use array indexed from [Smallest element...........Largest element]and then count the frequency of each elements . And then we can element with Larget frequency .

Largest and Smallest are the Largest and Smallest elements of the set X = { S1 Union S2 Union S3 U .... SM } , The Time complexity is O(N) , N=|S1|+|S2|+|S3|.....|SM| . But this idea is not good , if the numbers are not uniformly distributed in the range smallest to Larget , or if number of elements are less compared to the size of the range.

Another Idea is to use BST ( or AVL Tree )with a Frequency Counter for each node. which is O(NlogN)

Are there any Better Solutions... ? I Guess there are.

What doesn't kill u just makes u stronger

There are those who live in the boundaries of guilt and fear, in the limits of imagination. One must dance in the moment. Reach down and pull up a song. Spin and chant and forget the sorrow that we are flesh on bone

- Book of Osiris, Egyptian Book of Dead(taken from suze's blog)

lately in my life a lots been happening which has left me all a bit unsure of future, you might say that the future is fickle and can never be planned but what to say of the human mind ,it always wants to plan ,preplan and post plan and plan.i been wondering whether the notion of right or wrong is justified . what is right or wrong in a situation that is already based upon some preconceived notion which can sound abstract to most people.Meanwhile my active vocab has decreased cause of my stay at chandigarh.. well my friends kinda don't like me speaking english so i have to converse in punjabi ..
i am at the crossroads of my life from where one path is different from the other..
though i have chosen a path .. i really don't know much about it
yesterday i was talking to a very intelligent girl ,and it was about the title of this blog... survival life is all about it,surviving something will give you confidence and experience..in between while i am writing amdocs results(recruitment is going on though i didn't appear today ) have come and some of most brilliant people haven't made the aptitude tests(sometimes i feel as though pulling my hair out what is required to get through these tests)and my friend is lying on the bed besides me supined by the force of destiny. To live another day he must survive today and so must i

BACK TO SCHOOL oops COLLEGE

now the summer holidays are over i go back to college...
the experiences i have gathered in chandigarh in the last month offer a practical insight into the working of this world.I played in a chess tornament after 6 years ..
first day went god 3.5 out of 4 .. that translates to 3 wins and a draw
the next ay i lost a match which normally i would have won.. and after that i lost my chance to win the tournament ..though in the next round i won against a rated player..
and finished with 5.5/7 score .. i thought i underachieved by not coming 1 or 2.

Alliance Franciase-le meilluer

today i write about my experiences learning french in alliance franciase
they say ... by they i mean the wise men saints philosphers etc

learning a new language changes the person.......
i ain't that divine as the person who said those words but i will second it

the first day we met the first of our instructors Madam Vandana Behl ..
typical teacher kinda reminds me of all my years in school..
the demanding types...
cool class started with introduction to french as a language
the country of france etc.. then we switched to greetings
au revior .. a bientot .. i felt i was being taught to speak
like being given the words again.. realised that it is the action rather than the words .. communication is non verbal first and then non verbal..
asking someone names
comment vous vous appelez?
tu t'appelles
...
they next day we met met the other instrutor devyani ..
pretty na! the look on all the guys faces
our hearts were broken when we learnt she is married and too top it all has two kids

any ways she helped us in the pronunciation part

the next day i had this weird problem in saying the word je
to be pronounced as in meaSure
je suis meilleur
so we started with our sentences and our tales of trying to translate

somehow we all feel to give words to things we understand
let us take for example love .. we have given a term to a feeling which some say cannot be described ..
so it is inherent in social life to give words to a particular expression ,relation ..
the same way even though we can understand what most words meant in the class we still chose to translate them .. for our benefit ..(give me the benefit of the doubt.. why cause i am the batsman oops ! sorry the writer that's the cricket blood in me speaking )
so we translated .. repeated after the teacher like irritating 9 year olds

speaking some words which at first doesn't make sense .. expressions such as
je ne comprende pas were my favourites during the duration of the learning process
but then i understood that a language i to be lived ..not learnt
au revior
a bientot

PRESQUE-VU

well it's been like two years when i fainted ,but i still remember the day .. i had 104 degreees centigrade temperature calling up my father and after talking to him .. i just dropped down in front of the PCO.
today in my french class one of my classmates droppped like a feather.. i just remember those days of pain .. of treatment and recovery of trying to run and falling .. of trying to play and don't have a stamina .. of trying to read but didn't see to understand a word
.. of sitting alone and preparing for re-exams
realising that i am not as sharp as i was..

anyways ....
it was something similiar

thanks for all those things

Notion of Simplicity

yesterday was like all other days ....
na it wasn't no single day is like the other ,they say there is nothing which is an exact copy of the original.Incidents accidents etc are all a part of life.
went to kick one of my friends away ..may be forever ..
at the station a blind man asked us for direction to get out of the station... well i just thought may be i can walk in darkness for a while and let him walk in light..
i went outside with him .. walking with him ,i actually never walked with such care before , my cavalier attitude to life suddenly went missing ,the insouciant suddenly became cautious...anyway i asked him where he had to go ,tried to look for a tempo ...
couldn't find one .. asked a riksha puller to take him whenever he want to go ..
or make him take a bus to his destination ...
well i had to go back my friend was there at the station...

well i went back to the station and my friend was there , well he didn't discuss my actions .. well may be he is too used to my thinking or too confused at my actions

in between
want to singing songs of farewell to friends
try The End by the Doors

This is the end beautiful friend the end
This is the end my only friend the end ,of our ellaborate plans the end
of everything that stands the end ,no safety or suprise the end
....
as i was singing and my friend was humming with me
the train starting
and he boarded ..
and a hug..........

...and solitude..........
a hundred years of it

Abstract

life in abstract
exams going on , presque vu with someone.Scope for improvement approaches infinity .

what is meant by being abstract ?
If someone calls you abstract what does it mean?
i gather it meant that i am impersonal in my views and attitude .That i always look at a situation without being actually in it.A outsiders views to personal problem.
Like looking at something without being involved in it.
guess that is why i am satisfied or look satisfied atleast to others, cause i never make it personal.Even when i am involved in something deeply i always act with detachment. Now the previous line seems as if it is contradictory.
What it does is decreases the amount of time to recover from a set back or a gaffe .Cons are that it can lead to another gafffe, never quitting is a very bad habit .though one thing tenacity pays in everything yup eveything and anything...........

Abstinence

Today i had a dream today
i am planning to give CAT this year ,so the IIM's are on my mind like 24-7.
So in the Dream i am admiited to IIM-bangalore ,but i pissed off at the IIM-A reject so still there is no respite feeling low.
So as i don't want to leave any stone unturned i decided to take a break from movies as well, most recently i stopped playing AOC(Age of Empires-that's a popular LAN game )
So i decided to practise total abstinence from vices implies deleted all the movies files on my computer like 20 gb space
no movies for me now, sobriety to be practised from now onwards ,work hard keep my head down .Talk less to people ,don't be so approachable.
keep it simple and straight that is the motto.
read the business page everyday ,be aware .and hope hope ..that you get into A

The Arthashastra

from the Arthashastra - Chanakaya
Hence by overthrowing the aggregate of the six enemies [lust, anger, greed, vanity, haughtiness, and overjoy], he shall restrain the organs of sense; acquire wisdom by keeping company with the aged; see through his spies; establish safety and security by being ever active; maintain his subjects in the observance of their respective duties by exercising authority; keep up his personal discipline by receiving lessons in the sciences; and endear himself to the people by bringing them in contact with wealth and doing good to them. Thus, with his organs of sense under control, he shall keep away from hurting the women and property of others; avoid not only lustfulness, even in dream, but also falsehood, haughtiness, and evil proclivities; and keep away from unrighteous and uneconomical transactions.

Not violating righteousness and economy, he shall enjoy his desires. He shall never be devoid of happiness. He may enjoy in an equal degree the three pursuits of life: charity, wealth, and desire, which are inter-dependent on each other. Any one of these three, when enjoyed to an excess, hurts not only the other two, but also itself. Kautilya holds that wealth, and wealth alone, is important, inasmuch as charity and desire depend upon wealth for their realization. Those teachers and ministers who keep him from falling a prey to dangers, and who, by striking the hours of the day as determined by measuring shadows, warn him of his careless proceedings even in secret, shall invariably be respected. Sovereignty is possible only with assistance. A single wheel can never move. Hence he shall employ ministers and hear their opinion.

A king who is not alert and strong is not respected by his vassals , No king can last without being strong
The strong only respect the strong, strength lies in a disciplined mind
a king cannot let distrust be born in his subjects
As they leader can only lead if he is himself the best
anyone saying otherwise is playing politics

tech news
geekman writes "NASA is paying Rice University $11 million to build a prototype quantum wire that can conduct electricity 10 times better than traditional copper cables at one-sixth the weight. Rice has four years to build a one-meter-long quantum wire, which will be made out of carbon nanotubes. Seems like a lot of money for a little wire, but then again, all the rocket scientists at Los Alamos have only ever been able to put together a four-centimeter nanotube.

can we change the world or just be lost in satires of dissent. We are young and while our youth exist we can think of changing the world. We hear of our country being the great democracy of the world.Cradle of civilizations ,we have a culture that is 4500 years old.Yet it has suffered 200 years of colonial rule and a 1000 years of invasion by tribes from Central Asia.Let me ask are we lambs bred for slaughter, the sapidity of peace forever in or mouths even when we are plagued by enemies by all sides.
Are we just playing dumb are we really effeminate(no offence to the female sex)
yes you can say we existed before them and we exist afterward also. But who guarantees such liberties when this world talks of nothing but power and money.
Can we change India and make it strong for generations. So that posterity can ponder upon our names with pride.

WAR STARTS FROM THE HEAD AND ENDS THERE.

Michelangelo

who was Michelangelo
http://www.michelangelo.com/buonarroti.html

these are his words on completing the sistine chapel

This comes from dangling from the ceiling–
I'm goitered like a Lombard cat
(or wherever else their throats grow fat)–
it's my belly that's beyond concealing,
it hands beneath my chin like peeling.
My beard points skyward, I seem a bat
upon its back, I've breasts and splat!
On my face the paint's congealing.

Loins concertina'd in my gut,
I drop an arse as counterweight
and move without the help of eyes.

Like a skinned martyr I abut
on air, and, wrinkled, show my fat.
Bow-like, I strain toward the skies.

No wonder then I size
things crookedly; I'm on all fours.
Bent blowpipes send their darts off-course.

Defend my labor's cause,
good Giovanni, from all strictures:
I live in hell and paint its pictures.

The Birthday

Yesterday we had a party, saurabh birthday and it was great.I went to the temple before joining them and i was suprised to see so many people in the temple(i realised navratras(fasting time for hindus) are going on).Funny thing how people suddenly remember gods in exams ,in times of distress, and in festival times. There were lot of commotion and too many people to find peace but you can find peace and silence anywhere.
i reached Friends "the cafe" and everyone was playing dumb charades and it was all laughs for a while and then like all other days ,the day came to a end but not without a few hiccups -
like thinking you lost your mobile in your bag (heheheh, manasi- so cute na), naman and aakash (trying to miss the bus for a kulfi worth 2 rupees).
Some vedic maths in the morning
Just listening to some music in the morning ,there is nothing like listening to classic ock in the morning.U2 and Led Zepplin are great, vocals the music ,the pitch .

the song by led zepplin ,this song reminded of someone i know.

Stairway to Heaven

There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
And when she gets there she knows if the stores are closed
With a word she can get what she came for

Woe oh oh oh oh oh
And she's buying a stairway to heaven

There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure
And you know sometimes words have two meanings
In the tree by the brook there's a songbird who sings
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven

Woe oh oh oh oh oh
And she's buying a stairway to heaven

There's a feeling I get when I look to the west
And my spirit is crying for leaving
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those who stand looking

Woe oh oh oh oh oh
And she's buying a stairway to heaven

And it's whispered that soon, if we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long
And the forest will echo with laughter

And it makes me wonder

If there's a bustle in your hedgerow
Don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May Queen

Yes there are two paths you can go by
but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on

Your head is humming and it won't go because you don't know
The piper's calling you to join him
Dear lady can't you hear the wind blow and did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind

And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our souls
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll
Woe oh oh oh oh oh
And she's buying a stairway to heaven

There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
And when she gets there she knows if the stores are closed
With a word she can get what she came for

And she's buying a stairway to heaven, uh uh uh.

Nameology

hey just got a mail from one of my friends and i was suprised how acccurate the anaylsis is.The anaylsis for the letter V is as given below.

Does your name begin with: V
You are individualistic & you need freedom, space & excitement. You wait till you know someone well before committing yourself. Knowing someone means psyching her/him out. You feel a need to get into his/her head to see what makes him tick. You are attracted to eccentric types. You believe that age is no barrier. You are good at responding to danger, fear & suspense.

i always pysche out girls before i commit, try to check their nerves before i am really interested, normally it starts with beiing cool then suddenly i am all over ,inside her head etc
age is no barrier comment is personified in me ;);)

fear (heheheh..... )danger (my territory........) suspense (hello what else is life0 well i really not bothered about them, they are for lesser mortals.

FEAR

What is Fear?its cause and effects
Fear is defined as a feeling of agitation and anxiety caused by the presence or imminence of danger.Desire is always preceded by a feeling of want ,fear has its root in an apprehension of mishap, while anger ensues when someone interferes with the attainment of one's desire or when one's will is not carried out.Anger leads to pain.Pain can occur due to physical injury, disease or emotional disorder.Neither physical injuries nor disease nor emotions are permanent, and a wise man should understand the temporal state and understand that pain is but temporary. This pain leads to suffering of the mind.Only solution is discipline your mind and your senses.
Disciplined mind is one who neither overeats nor who observes complete fast. One who is regulated in diet and recreation ,regulated in performing actions, regulated in sleep and in wakefulness .
If you conquer your fears only then you can truly understand freedom and liberty.Otherwise you will be like soul wandering in limbo, who neither knows life nor death. They say when some people when they die they never have lived at all.So decide whether you wish to live.

IT front

IEEE Spectrum has an interesting article on how to fix the U.S. patent system. It starts with an example of how broken the system is, with Smuckers suing a small company for crustless PB&J. It has a great overview of how the system has evolved and how much it favors the big patent holders, and suggests 3 specific fixes: 'create incentives and opportunities for parties to challenge the novelty and nonobviousness of an invention before the PTO grants a patent,' examine the important patents meticulously; don't waste effort on the unimportant ones that can be ousted early, and for examining prior art, use judges and special masters rather than uninformed juries.

http://edition.cnn.com/2001/WORLD/asiapcf/auspac/07/02/australia.wheel/

try to check out the above link and you will realise you can patent the wheel. If it goes on like this then crop rotation or other fundamental advances in civilization will be patented soon.

Personal

Have lots of assignments and a book report.
Hope this goes smoothly and well.
thanks for reading the words written above.

Do i feel wee bit heavy

US scientists have managed to measure the mass of a cluster of xenon atoms at just a few billionths of a trillionth of a gram - or a few zeptograms. The record measurement is in the mass range of individual protein molecules, and the detection was made using sensitive scales developed at Caltech. It is hailed as another big leap forward for nanotechnology.
Now i just feel being constituted of so many tiny atoms. We all are made of so many different particles and still feel as one ,diversity leads to unity.I think that is what everything points to.From diversification of fields which are constitutes of the society as a whole to division of humans on basis of caste creed even ability is a delusion.

On the IT front
Microsoft Corp. on Thursday escalated its efforts to crack down on Internet fraud, announcing that it filed more than a hundred lawsuits aimed at identifying people the company says targeted its e-mail and Internet service customers through "phishing" scams.
how many of us have got some spams asking us to manage financial data asking us for credit card numbers and personal data. It is a form of online fraud that uses authentic-looking e-mail messages and Web sites to trick computer users into giving up their personal and financial data. Security experts tracked 2,625 fraudulent Web sites and more than 13,000 new and unique e-mail lures in February

in between

Motivation

Motivation is just another word for following one's instincts.

For the last one month i have been pondering on whether to pursue an MBA or a MS.This has been my bane and many others like me who in third year have no clue.To be or not to be(heard of shakespeare) that is the question.I actually started preparing for GRE
last year but my parents don't seem excited about this at all.So all i got out of it was a vocab and a loads of knowledge on various topics. Then thinking if i want to do an MBA then better atleast learn what it's all about, i interned at IIMA last summer to understand what is an MBA from the best in India.I learned its a combination of thinking smart and producing more results.Analysing situation etc (i thought this seems easy ,i have been doing it in chess for so many years) are the core basis.
Anaysis of worksheets ,balancesheets, spreadsheets etc etc ,case studies by the number
sitting in the library for 6 hours daily form a nice routine.Hey no wonder they call it the toughest B school in India woking 15 hours a day ,no one sleeps more than 6 hours(did i say six its lower in most cases) suprise quizzes assignments.Did i mention the fact that you have come to class to discuss rather than to be taught. All chapters have to read in advance.Discipline takes a new form and timings are reespected ,you cannot get late in class etc etc you cannot fall sick ,100% attendance is compulsory.

coming to my side

I know that i am not perfect for a s/w engineer's job.But i know i can be very persuasive and unyielding .I can intuitively understand a lot of situations besides
my secret ambitions of owning mansions, jets etc... Now I am motivated enough to get what I want.So i decided on PGP in management or an MBA.
Techniques for motivation
1. Try a SWOT analysis. Follow this link:http://www.quickmba.com/strategy/swot/.
2. Meditate and try and understand what you want. Try to think of some events that have shaped your life(this is tough i mean really tough if you have some cobwebs in your life).Or Why do you think you are what you are?
3. The Real question:Why do you want what you want? Is it just money, fame, power sense of belief etc. or something more? And how badly do you want it? This question appears in different forms in all interviews. 'Why MBA' is just a form of this question. Believe me, it is worthy to know this.
4. One sincere suggestion is: don't think about the problems that you will need to face when you think about above 3 questions. At this step, you will know where you should ideally be. Be tough to yourself and don't fall into fallacies like 'since i can dream all day, I can be a dreamer.
5. Now that you know where you should be, try to visualize. Well, it is true when they say that visualization is one thing that keeps humans above other forms of animals. There can be endless arguements on this point, but plz ...
I try to visualize in detail whatever I want. And when I get up from my session, I am roaring to go.It is like seeing before you do it,instincts etc all come from his tautological process ,that you see yourself again and again in that position
6. Get to know the marvels, be it a musical piece or a written word. I usually think about this "I was once a sperm who beat million others". Funny though true...
7. Think what can be and not just what is. It is a powerful statement though stolen from 'The magic of thinking BIG'.
8. If your lack of motivation is because of other powerful distractors, try praying. And do it consistently. You will definitely feel the positive result in a week or so...

Reconciliation

Reconciliation means adjustment
synonyms include adaptation, compliance, composition, compromise, conformity, fitting, modification, reconciliation, settlement..........
well that is what the day after you break your dreams, break a relationship after making it sacred.Relations turn from sacred to profane too often.

Just returned from home a few days ago,all time at home was used up in visiting relatives.Hardly anytime for friends(sad na) except the last day.
so i had to reconcile being a pet to my niece,no girl has ever forced me to hold hands, get down on my knees ,carry her around etc and she did it in a day.Well it wasn't bad cause she loves me as no other girl would.
During the return journey i met a doctor who asked me a question on the changing scenario, how much does the environment of the city affect the educational institutions ?

Omerta

According to the World Book Dictionary
OMERTA is a Sicilian code of honor which forbids informing about crimes thought to be affairs of the person involved.I started the book by Mario Puzo in the morning and slept at 2 in the night,it was like anyother Puzo novel which signifies honor above everything else.
It talks about reasonable men who know that this world is not based on laws, that everything written in law is not enforced (cause some things are for the intellectuals to ponder about, utopia is a myth ).
Pretty much a potboiler ,with the essence of "The Godfather".But it is the important adages and wisdom that books give that is more important.
The lessons out of the book are as follows

"Never pass if you can dribble"
"Never Quit when you are 20 points down in the last quarter"
and "Never go out with a woman who has more than one cat"

i understood the first two but couldn't understand the third one ,although i think i better take his word for it.
Oh i missed my yoga time cause of this book ,got up late at 7:31 am
:((
but shit happens
in between talking on the phone is a pleasure with some girls(read some)
Dares are the most innocuous of crimes commited by a guy

Three guys, a girl and loads of fun

The last time i talked about The Friends it was about Rahul etc(see the blog about the friends below) now i talk about my friends.
Well lately we have been hanging a lot together which i might add is a pleasure, Subhashish Chakraborthy (shomu as well call him besides other pseudoyms as we call him) is the compassionate and extremely funny guy(if you aren't used to his type of humor his company can be mortifying)
the thing about subashish is that he juxtaposes heckling, kiding, lampooning, makes sport of, mocking, parodizing, ridicules, satirizes, teasing and makes you think isn't this so much fun
,Aakash gaur(aka the shahid kapur clone) is sweet naive guy ,he is cute and sweet, yes girls! cute and sweet :)).He is kinda friend whom i won't mind having the trenches with me.
Can't say anything about me it would be a battery of lies but i still like to say that i am like clay mould me as you can.Yesterday i was so drowsy but still i couldn't refuse the offer of missing a outing with them(we went to a see a movie "Black" nice na and .
Abhipsita Singh(iru , pista etc) brings balance to it all , she is the madame and brings order if necessary though for the last few days she has been enjoying our rif raf and friendly bantering. She has been sick(migraines) and we, aakash me and shomu have been trying to cheer her up and i guess its working cause she is looking better(may be its just the medicines and sleep she has been taking).
on a personal note, the thing is that i can get depressed very easily and these guys have been making my life great.
thats all folks for today

Mr.Mojo Risin

Anagrams seem to be flavor of the day today.
Every heard about The Doors front man Jim Morrison, when i heard about the doors ,i thought of the Doors of Perception ,Doors which seperate who and who, strangers basking in the crowds, seperated by the very limitation of their names.
Some people wish to change their names but they seem too attached ,others use anagrams Mr.Mojo risin comes to Jim Morrison,i was wondering what would be anagram for my name or yours.
yesterday i had a day out with my friend aakash ,while relaxing he mocked while watching a video clip from some new movie whether wearing such clothes and dancing is a realistic.I answered that it is not reality but fantasy that movies sell,we all have fantasies even though we never may want to fulfill them in reallife.

The Friends

Most of you might have watched at one time or another the popular sitcom The Friends but you would have never faced the Friends in real life.Well i ain't talking about the friends in the sitcom but the so called friends clan of IIITA Rahul Suchit Shekhar and Ashish. These guys are like glue, they study together ,they do projects together, they eat, sleep besides other things together.

So except doing projects together ,applying for internships ,they also watch the series The Friends everyday during lunch and dinner.During the hedonistic pleasures they entrall in,I have sometimes enjoyed their company othertimes better not give words to misery personified.......

So as it happened day before yesterday ,i was sleeping peacefully and suddenly the friends appeared in the my room ,pleading with me to let thm watch friends on my PC(which i refused! sorry guys)
But one thing i didn't mention was that the friends never give up,they were back the next day with plates from the Mess in the afternoon.
mmoral of the story
" persistence pays"

the friends motto is pretty clear and you can't ignore even a fool if he is laloo and they are my friends "The Friends".

The Waste Land

While reading Catch 22 by Joseph Heller,i came across a paragraph in which it was mentioned "no poet makes money except perhaps TS Elliot".I just looked up the name on google and came across The Wasteland a piece of poetry.

March has been a revelatory month for me, i did somethings which i never though i would be capable of.I am little bemused by my actions.I have been getting up in the morning at around 4,started doing yoga(thanks to my roomate) then head to the gym for some warm up exercises,i even reach classes before time(now this is weird) and have loads of time for basketball in the evening .
You can ask what the big deal about this all ,well the time i get up now is the ime i used to sleep,i used to play AOC (computer games for the rustics) all night long which i have left.Everything i used to do for the last three years seems a distance past.

oh! in between we had a intra college cricket tournament at the our college IIITA , we reached the finals and choked big time (i got a hat-trick and a five wicket hall, god i choked!!!).The cut short story is that we lost by 8 runs and i was the last man standing.

Quantum Teleportation

Ever heard of the term "Teleportation" ,according to the IBM site
http://www.research.ibm.com/quantuminfo/teleportation/

the term was given by science fiction writers to making an object or person disintegrate or vanish at one place and exact replica appearing in some other place. A few science fiction writers consider teleporters that preserve the original, and the plot gets complicated when the original and teleported versions of the same person meet, but the more common kind of teleporter destroys the original, functioning as a super transportation device, not as a perfect replicator of souls and bodies.

In 1993 an international group of six scientists, including IBM Fellow Charles H. Bennett, confirmed the intuitions of the majority of science fiction writers by showing that perfect teleportation is indeed possible in principle, but only if the original is destroyed.

In subsequent years, other scientists have demonstrated teleportation experimentally in a variety of systems, including single photons, coherent light fields, nuclear spins, and trapped ions.
consider a document
let us assume that you can scan the original copy without destroying it(heard about fax machines),then that information can be used to create the same particle or object someother place, suppose we have extracted every bit of information necessary or which is present in a system ,then we can simulate the particle at someother place.Let us assume human cloning is possible(might as well be possible) so by suing the information extracted from a particular person ,we can create a replica some other place. But the idea of quantum teleportation is different.supposedly we have two entangled states of objects A ans C then object A has some information about object C even though its may no longer be in entangled with C.So we operate object A with some object B then we can extract the data from A and end it to use to create replica of a A.
According to the site
There is a subtle, unscannable kind of information that, unlike any material cargo, and even unlike ordinary information, can indeed be delivered in such a backward fashion. This subtle kind of information, also called "Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) correlation" or "entanglement", has been at least partly understood since the 1930s when it was discussed in a famous paper by Albert Einstein, Boris Podolsky, and Nathan Rosen. In the 1960s John Bell showed that a pair of entangled particles, which were once in contact but later move too far apart to interact directly, can exhibit individually random behavior that is too strongly correlated to be explained by classical statistics.

Some Extra Notes
In the quantum teleportation protocol, a classical channel is required to transfer two bits of information. Therefore, the transmitting of information is not faster than the speed of light.
Quantum non-cloning theorem still holds. The originally qubit has to be destroyed (measured) during the process. Also note that energy and matter can not be teleported in this manner, only the quantum state (i.e. quantum information) is transmitted.
Although a continuous qubit (infinite degree of freedom) is transmitted using two classical bits (four degree of freedom), this process can not be used to increase the capacity of classical channel. Holevo's theorem states that one qubit can only be used to transport at most one classical bit.
While the two bits sent through the classical channel can be intercepted by a third party, the information is totally useless without Bob's entangled copy of the qubit. Therefore, this is an absolutely secure way to transmit information, and has been suggested as an ideal way for crypt key distribution.

Ride the Snake

the biography of Jim Morrison
that the read of the month

"No One Here Gets Out Alive"

"Poetic today" aren't we so try to set my fire...........

You know that it would be untrue
You know that I would be a liar
If I was to say to you
Girl, we couldn’t get much higher
Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire

Time to hesitate is through
No time to wallow in the mire
Try now we can only lose
And our love become a funeral pyre

Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire

Aouh, come on!
Come on, babe!

Yeah! come on!
Come on!

Woaouh! yeah!

It was the greatest night of my life.
Although I still had not found a wife
I had my friends
Right there beside me.
We were close together.
We tripped the wall, we scaled the graveyard
Ancient shapes were all around us.
The wet dew felt fresh beside the fog.
Two made love in an ancient spot
One chased a rabbit into the dark
A girl got drunk and balled the dead
And I gave empty sermons to my head.
Cemetary, cool and quiet
Hate to leave your sacred lay
Dread the milky coming of the day.

Ah, ah, ah, ah!
Ah, ah, ah, ah!
Ah, ah, ah, ah!
Ah, ah, ah, ah!
Ah, ah, ah, ah!
Ah, ah, ah, ah!
Ah, ah, ah, ah!
Aah, aah, aah, aah, aah
Aah, aah, aah, aaah!

Time to hesitate is through
No time to wallow in the mire
Try now we can only lose
And our love become a funeral pyre

Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire

Know that it would be untrue
You know that I would be a liar
If I was to say to you
Girl, we couldn’t get much higher

Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire
Try to set the night on fire
Try to set the night on fire
Try to set the night on fire!

All right, all right!
All right!

Commutation

the day started with some more matrix multiplication(read robotics class &***%$$) then we had the two hour quantum computing class in which commutation of variables was the topic .We started with schrodinger's equation ,tried to solve it under the apporximation
consider the eigen equation
A|vi> = ai|vi>
ai are all distinct non degenerate
a1= a2 some ai are same
degenerate
the eigen value equation
we consider the vector in Hilbert's Space representing the state ,if we take the projection on the x axis we get the wave function.
[x,Px] = x.PX-PX.x is not equal to zero but ih

well it reminds of the fact that even though two functions may be independent and then they can't commute .if they can't commute then there is no uncertainty.

Dancing Wu Li Masters

hi again ,fellow humans welcome to 4th february 2005
the day started with a suprise quiz on neural networks (the prof is weird ,suprise quiz in the morning ##$@$$ and the questions no wonder looked like something in latin),a bit of a repreive in digital signal procesing ,then came the abstract but laconic quantum computing.
in between lots of quantum algebra Sir couldn't miss to quote Rene Descartes( the man who made coordinate geometry possible ) and add to his quote.
"meta physics are the roots, physics is the stem and the branches are all other braches of science".He asked us to read two books on qunatum physics Fritjof Capra "Tao of Physics" and "Dancing Wuli Master" by Gary Zukav(may be soon after catch 22).
He added that quantum mechanics is part between the stem and the roots. In my words its the place where saness is found by metaphysics or deeper reality, the place where meta physics meets physics that is where quantum mechanics lies.
After this we had Artificial intelligence which we have loads of,all about predicate and propositional logic.
Most of us will call it a day but not at iiita we have 3 hours tutorial on NFC neuro fuzzy computing and got 5 assignments and term project as parting gift.

Habits ,Transformations and Relatedness

welcome again to my melange of thoughts.

Today was a day unlike the days gone before. As it happens sometimes i got late into class (robotics taken by Dr.G.C.Nandi ) and we learned about transformation operators in 3D (on matrices not literally) seriously the lecture emphasized the role of transformation in robotics..though a bit trivial ,i think we will handle advanced transformations in tommorow's class.

So why did i blog ,what's the special ocassion
I had my first class in quantum computing(##$$@#$@$)

even though i haven't taken it as a subject i have decided to attend the lectures as a hobby(what the #$%@ ).Well that will put me in a category of nerds(read quantum mechanics as hobby) but i think quantum mechanics is beautiful. The way some mathematical equations which have no physical significance end up making a theory so precise and yet abstract, explains the most unconvicing of nature's action so elegantly .
Reasons for attending quantum computing lectures
ever since i remember i always like to question before i believed,i learnt about life from experience and from logic.I had many questions about life and its existence some have been answered others not.The question of the fundamental building block of life is one of the questions.I believe someplaces traditional logic fails and here we require something else,i believe quantum logic is what we require .
Moreover i think quantum mechanics recognises human behavior which no other exact science can do,the idea of a consciousness is not recognised by any other branch of exact science. Some people think of quantum mechanics as a philosphy rather than a science,i believe quantum mechanics started as philosphy and so did all branches of science.
mathematics is philosphy but cause of the exactness given to it by our future generation ,it is referred to being embodied as an art and a science.I believe every endeavour in nature first studied has to be looked as an art.Our teacher for quantum computing are prof.C M Bhandari and he in his very first lecture talked of Galileo
famous quote

"to understand nature one has to understand the language it has been written, that language is mathematics"

he talked about the bane of habit which makes a man repetitious and stagnant ,he talked about Max Muller being the greatest sanskrit scholar in the 20th century, that the idea of quantum mechanics were derived from eastern thought.Heisenberg and Schrodinger are refered to as the fathers of quantum mechanics ,Heisenberg with metric mechanics and Schrodinger with wave mechanics. He talked about the importance of a fresh mind thinking from a outsider's perspective rather than a prejudiced mind.
Then the lectured transformed from pure philosphy to a pure mathematical continum. It started from vector algebra ,the relation with algebra which we define for quantum algebra (bra and ket algebra).
The ideas of the hilbert space(infinite dimensional space).let me explain
For an ant walking on a wire ,its view can be described by one dimension, for a object on a plane its position can be described by two dimension, for us humans it position can be described by three dimension.... so by hypothesis we talk of an object which can be described in n dimensions.
look at the equation

[u'] = [a][u]
where [u'] and [u] are column vectors
and a be a transformation matrix("jamais vu") but we can define it to be an operator.
we talk of a special case where
u' = u and then the equation is special or eigen in german
Gu =E u is an example of eigen equation and E is an constant and G is an opertor.
Sir talked of importance of a trace of a matrix and proved that trace of matrix A is same as A'
for y= Ax
wonderful beginnning and what's more he gave me a book to read. Those who are interested in quantum mechanics can go through feynman lectures in physics vol 3 (can email you the copy if you don't have)
as a parting note i leave you
"though that may not be necessay we study, though it might not be necessary we feel
though marks have no relation with knowledge we get them".
thanks for this course where i get no acknowledgement ,no recognition(from the dean) and most imporant no marks

Catch 22

revise
have a look at the word list

Trying to find the words

the new year has come though i don't understand the concept of a new year in midst of winters(well in the north its a bit cold)
my opinion is that new year should be reserved for spring, cause that is when everyone is energetic and happy, but i can't do anything about it except celebrate my personel new year in spring. And among the few rules of my life, the best one is never think about something you cannot imagine a solution to.
like never look at a girl if you are not interested to go out with her or atleast talk to her, like if i can't talk to a girl then their is no point looking at her ans so on imagine. this is something my friends normally don't agree with me on this matter.
never look at a book you don't plan on reading blah blah don't i sound like a con man deepak chopra ....don't, i ,i wish, i was, inexorable, god bless the world.

So what did i do the previous year

i saw Alexander- the movie
something i noticed funny ,suppose i end being this great man whose name resonates through the ages ,and a picture is made in my honour say two thousand years afterwards

suppose i don't marry will i be called gay .......or a bisexsual....
the ways of the world are most amusing
moral of the sotry if you don't desire a woman you are gay
is it!!!
i leave with this though of parting
